Question about credit

I have a few questions. I recently ran a credit check from all 3 consumer reporting agencys. I noticed alot of incorrect information reported by transunion. This included my birthdate, previous address, and alot of collection accounts that were not mine. After looking at these collection accounts, i noticed they were actually my fathers. Me and my father have the same first and last name but different middle names. Why is this on my credit report, how could they get this confused if we have 2 seperate SS #'s? I filed a dispute online with transunion 2 days ago, there is no reason why this will not be off of my credit report in 30 days, right?

The other question I have is regarding Bally Fitness. I opened an account with them 2 years ago. Being stupid I signed a contract for 3 years. I attened their facilitys for 3 months, and of those months i paid for. Then the unthinkable, i got laid off. It was 6 months before I could find another job, and struggling to make it. I could not afford to pay them, so eventually the contract was turned over to a collection agency. My question is, since this is not really a debt (money that did not come out of their pocket), Will I be able to settle with them and possibly have this removed from my credit report? I do not see how they could refuse the offer, its free money for them just to remove this item. I also noticed that there were 2 entries regarding this debt. One from Ballys and one from the Collection Agency. Is this correct? It looks like I have 2 unpaid accounts! I am thinking about hiring a lawyer to see what they can do, Is this a good idea?

Thanks for the help,
Gary.
