If they sent a copy of a bounced check that is in your name with "insufficient funds" or something similar stamped on it then, they validated. Heck, that's easy to validate. It has the name of the merchant {made payable to} the date, the account number, the financial institution and a signature. What more are they supposed to do? Why not offer to pay for deletion? Or, wait until next year and it's gone anyway.
