I cannot see how it would hurt to be brutally honest with them. you probably have the same crappy 24.99% that I do or close to it. Tell them maybe you cannot afford the loan but you would like to try to pay it off if they can drastically reduce the payments else you will have to default. I would wait for why chats reponse cause maybe they would jump the gun and try and take your stuff. Back from my poor college days I had a 400 loan that was secured with household goods. I never paid it and never heard from them and now the SOL is up.
