Earlier this year, a postdated check for $250 hit my checking account, was paid, I wasn't able to cover it for some time. I called the bank and asked them not to close the account, pointed out that I'd had an account with them for 25 years, wasn't using the account until I could get that payment covered, and would pay it as soon as possible. I was told there shouldn't be a problem, but the account was closed with no notification other than a entry on the back of my bank statement that I didn't even notice. When I finally had the money to cover the overdraft plus all their lovely little fees, I paid off the entire amount. After I made the payment I was told they wouldn't reopen my account, and I couldn't have another account there for 5 years. When I called another bank, they said they wouldn't allow a new account for anyone who'd had an account closed by a bank in the last 2 years. Is there any way around this? Anything I can do?
