I answered a summons from a CA attorney stating that the account in question was not mine. I received a copy of their answer or counterclaim the following:

AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSES:

Defendant fail to state a cause of action.

Any damages suffered by the Defendant are a result of his own actions and/or inactions.

Wherefore, Plaintiff request the Defendant's counterclaims be dismissed in it's entirety.

What does "cause of action" mean. Infact, what does all of it mean? Do I have to respond to the attny or to the court?
