I agree in general with Observer, however, the ONLY things that they could possibly take would be assets that were in her name alone, there is NO way they can attach "her" interest in joint assets,especially not a homestead.
As to sending them a letter, I personally do not think it is a good idea,any response from you, even a cease and desist, would help them in any future action.
I think you should have a lawyer, or legal aid if you can't afford one, write on behalf of the "estate" of your late wife,advising them that you have no responsibilty for any of these debts and you will take action against them if they continue o harrass you.
