Risk Management Assesment letter

I received a letter from Risk Management Alternatives, stating that I owed a "The Credit Store/First Card" approx. $1,000. If I wanted to know who the original creditor was, I'd have to make a written request, etc..

* The date owed was 01-18-80 (!)

* I have no knowledge of anything owed 22 years ago (!), and have a clean credit history.

* The mailing addresses are suspect: for RMA, the address is given as Amherst, NY.

The postage stamp on the outside envelope reads Tampa, FL.

The return address given in a see-through window on the outside envelope reads Atlanta, GA.

The mailing address on the "payment form" is to Minneapolis, MN.

That's a god-awful amount of bouncing around for a legitimate company following legitimate practices.

I'm curious enough to call to find out what the heck is going on, but not naive enough to not realize that doing so may start a negative "snowball" effect.

Again, this letter was in reference to something supposedly owed _22 years_ ago!

Anyone have info on RMA and/or any suggestions on how I should follow-up? Or should I just ignore the letter?

Vic
