The way I understand it, the statute of limitations will have expired in any state in the US so they have no legal recourse, and cannot put an entry on your credit report even if you did have an old debt.

These agencies dont care if you owe the money or not, they are only in it for themselves, so if you call them you will only be verifying your information and they will likely harass you more until you sue them for it.
