Consult an attorney. Even if you are "technically" liable for it, you have some strong equitable defenses in your favor. It would take a while to explain just what is meant by "equitable" in a legal sense of the word. But basically it means that a judge or a court can do certain things even when the specific laws would reach a different result. A judge's "equitable" powers are his tools to effect "justice" when a strict application of the law would result in "injustice." Basically, given your situation, the times involved, and the "injustice" that would result in you having to pay for those debts, a decent attorney can use all that to make some good arguments why you shouldn't be responsible for those debts. So, consult an attorney. poor lawyer, esq.
