A c/d letter just keeps them from calling you or sending dunning letters. It will not keep them from sueing you. They cannot even send a letter stating they want you to pay. If it is past the SOL I would just put something in there that you know the SOL is up and they are wasting their time. That way they know you know the laws and they probably will not try and sneak a judgement by you. Of course, they have the brains of a peanut so who knows.
