Credit Card Dept

We are in CC dept about $8,000 and we can't afford to pay. What is the statue of limitations in New Jersey. We had to have our phone number changed because of the harassment, is there a way they can get our new number if it's unlisted? I figure we will just get threatening letters thru the mail.
