Threatening a child with calling the police is more than just misleading conduct "pursuing collection of a debt".

It undermines a faith that children MUST have, that if they are in trouble THEY can call on the police, for help.

There are lower creatures in the world than debt collectors.

Complain to your state AG, THE CORPORATE OFFICE ag, the FTC, the BBB, and while you're at it complain to the PR Bureau of the police precinct closest to the corporate address of this outfit.

Is the roommate in question your current roommate, or someone from college you lost contact with longer ago than the debt being pursed went into default?
