I was in college for a second run at a degree in the early 1970s. I was twice as annoyed as you are describing here, I knew too many people supporting themselves without help from parents or student loans or even scholarships. I was myself working part time at 20 hrs a week and pulling down a full time income.

I tried to talk to some of them, hey if they have no experience doing any kind of work, what about their student loans?

"Oh, that's no problem. We'll just declare bankruptcy."

And so they did.

And lo, that option vanished from Eden. And it was a very very long time before the powers that be noticed that something had been left out of the solution to the first problem.
