Cleaning up my past

After this CAMCO deal rattling me up, I decided to really try to clean up my credit score. So I applied to both Experian & Equifax. I found on Experian (3) thirty day late payments to two credit cards in 2000 and a thirty daycar payment in 1998. Credit score is 628
On equifax Besides these three it had an unpaid tel bill in Hawaii from 1998. credit score is 629.
I still have all the credit cards, but paid off the car in full and moved away from hawaii since.
If I want to clear these up, or at least some of these, do you think the others accts (not the CredCard's)will verify w/ the CR Agencies since they are so old.
Also, do the credit card companies ever take these things off your history so that if I request an investigation w/the CR agencies, the derogitory data will not be confirmed?
