Need HELP! Accts being paid but Credit Bureau won't update

I am paaying off some old credit card debts and have requested a recent copy of my credit report. How do I get the bureaus to update my current paying status and how long do negative comments stay on an account? I am asking they update the remarks to reflect my current paying status. What do I do?
