SOL in Oregon and Buying a Car with Charge-Off

I know there are hundreds here but wanted to be certain! I have a CC from BOFA that stopped paying 11/96 and it went to charge off (over $6000 now) in May 1997. I have all the paper work and traces. I never made a payment afterwards. I would like to buy a car in 2 months (Oct or Nov) because I need to. But need a small loan. Since CAs(NCO) has sent request in the past but did not act on it and also check my account every once a while for activity( I know this from CRs), I am worried they would come after me if I have a loan in my CRs. They have been contacting me over 2 years. I am just ignoring and not responding to them. Here is the question: I live in Oregon and SOL is 6 years for CCs and debt occurred in OR but CC signed in California. I understand OR laws apply at least CA chooses longer SOL location. But, does the SOL should be activiated in 11/02 or 5/03? Which one? Should I wait till 5/03 or can I buy the car in Oct?
