Advice on Credit Card debt

I only owe about $3000 in credit card debt between four different accounts. These companies are charging me $29 over-the-limit fees and $35 for late payment fees to the point that i can't even keep up. I'm 24 and still in school, so I make very little money. My credit is already REALLY bad. I've tried several times to settle with these companies, even for the principal amount and they are just really rude to me and refuse to even take off some of these fees for me to try and pay. I've already been late several times and all four cards and they are about to become charged-off accounts. Should I even attempt to deal with these people to come to an agreement or just not pay?
