Don't even think about defaulting on only $3000 worth of debt. If you can come up with the money for the principle amount then do it. Can you get a family loan to pay these cards off or at least get them caught up so you can make a minimum payment to stay current. Do not let a card chargeoff that averages $750 balance. THe risk reward for your credit just isn't worth it.
