They are right, do not allow yourself to go from a bad to worse situation by allowing the cards to charge-off. Ask family to help out and pay them back when you can.
After you have your accounts straight take a pair of scissors cut 2 of them up and send them back, use the other 2 for emergencies only!
I have a daughter in college and I certainly would not allow something like that to happen.
