Which to do first?

I've just recieved a colection notice that has been transferred to yet another OS collection agency, my question is this.......should I send the C&D letter or the validation letter first? I'm concerned that if I send the validation letter, the OS collector may send a judgement or suit. My SOL is up (I believe- 4 yrs for FL)but the 7 yrs to take derogatory info is about up as well (8/96 for original debt). should I hold off all together and wait the last yr out or should I send the C&D or validation letter?
