You Will Never Believe This!!! So I called the number for the guy whom called and talked to my wife yesterday. Some one else picked up and talking to him in a calm voice I asked "Can you tell me what firm you are with?" They said what do you mean? I said "I have an account with you and would like to inquire about it but I would like to know what department this is?" They said this is the COLLECTION department. I then asked what ramifications would come if I bounced a check with them. They said they would send me a notice of bounced check and If I refused to respond then they would send it out to an attorney for furthure assistance. I asked if MR Smith was their attorney and they said no Mr smith is a collection agent. I then informed them of the phone conversation and told them they can pick up the 100bucks from quick collect. First off they didn't respond to the threat Mr Smith made of filing a warrant for my wifes arrest. And they thanked me for the payment. I informed them I once worked for Sears as a debt collection specialist and told her to inform Mr. Smith that he broke so many laws it wasn't funny. Next some guy got on the phone and offered to settle my wifes debt for less than half of what she owes as well as change her notes on her credit report. I told them that would have to get back to them on it. I informed my wife of the situation and now she wants to see what we can do. I told her I'd rather pay them but I am not buying the fact that they can take off a late pay note on her credit report, can they? If they can I'm getting that in writing. I know this sounds like the most outlandish story but it is true and I can't believe it my self that some one would pull a stunt like that. I heard some wild converstions at Sears and some of the stuff they pulled but I never thought I would actually be on the recieving end of one and catch them in the act!!
