I guess I STILL don't understand how they can get away with filing a suit in another state, probably where a person ONCE lived, when the already have a VALID, CURRENT address. How can this possibly be legal ? That brings up the whole issue of Personal Jurisdiction that you so kindly explained for us here. How can you fight a lawsuit when you don't even know there is one in another state ??

I don't know about most people, but *I* don't have time to constantly search every city or county court where I ONCE lived to find out if some scum has filed a 'foreign' lawsuit against me. My fiance has only lived in 3 states, NY, IL, and TN, so its not too hard to keep up with those. I've lived in several states, the cost to keep investigating for either of us is scarey.
