If you pay off the accounts they won't go into default. I've heard it go both ways. Some cc comapnies will remove all bad stuff once you've paid them off and others, will remove the cccs notation but any late payments you may have had will remain.

I'd say the best thing to do is be very thankful to Mom and Dad and pay the cards off yourself. Cut cccs out of the deal. Then, concentrate on repaying the "Bank of Mom and Dad" plus, saving some money so this doesn't happen again. Let the cc company do what they'll do and fight any battle with them later.
