The term assignee in a lawsuit does not refer to the ownership of the account, just to the fact it has been transferred.You can be sure they own it if they are suing, otherwise they would not be the party in interest.

Now a days- the transfer of records on accounts is done with a compressed data "tape" This has codes that allow the ca to print out whatever files have been transferred, and access the optically scanned original applications at the OC.

What happens, thanks to the marvels of the computer age, is that ca's who buy bundles of accounts will get scrambled files, missing data or data that has becme irretrievable electronically.That is why I tell people to go over any claims from a ca with a fine tooth comb, check for mismatched account numbers, dates, names etc.
