I would suggest getting a lawyer to negotiate for you. If the creditor who filed the original judgment still has the account, it should be fairly simple to protect your personal inforation while negotiating a settlement. You want to do that as, if you negotiate directly, they will have the inf needed to refile(current address, permissible access to your credit report for your ss# etc.), and can hold you up for all the $$ including the additional interest. If it has been sold, I would strongly urge you NOT to try to settle, as it is a legal nightmare to get a release from the original creditor.
