Your parents were fortunate enough not to have purchased items they couldn't pay for, not to expand their business on borrowed funds they couldn't repay if the business went bad, not to suffer health problems that drained their resources, and not to fall victim to the compulsive buying of unneccessary "new things" that our current society has.

My children wore hand me downs from one child to another, my grandchildren get new clothes whenever the styles change (hourly). Our entertainment was reading and going to free concerts in the park, (and drive in movies) my grandchildren have all the latest cd's dvd's gadgets games and spend $40. -$50. on concerts.

Your parents apparently were not successful in passing their frugal, careful ways on to you, just as my children ,although they are careful, have not taught my grandchildren to budget, or make do, or work for what they have.
