You need to understand, unfortunate as it seems, the FDCPA and other consumer protection laws were designed to prevent ABUSE by collection agents, not to prevent legal and correct debt collection.

As to what you can do while waiting out SOL, unless you are VERY vulnerable in terms of assets, and live in a State where you can be garnished, you either get an answering machine, caller id with privacy blocking, an unlisted tel # or figure out a way to pay what you owe.

If you qualify for BK, do it, if none of the above apply, figure a way to put the ca's off by sending a cease and desist, filing a letter with the courts if you are sued relating to your immunity from garnishment and attachment, put your bank accounts in a joint name with someone else as primary, keep your car financed.
