You haven't stated how old the debt is.

I would still call the original creditor to CONFIRM IF THE DEBT HAS BEEN SOLD/BOUGHT, we can't just ASSUME that it was.

In addition, you are very smart to keep written documentation. I wonder what a Judge would say, being that the Collection Agency seems to be unreasonable.

Call the Original Creditor.
