Origin of Debt question and SOL questions.

I have a debt that I guess was started in ohio for 375.00. Then was bought buy a conpany which then sold it to another company. this NEW company has contacted and says I owe them 1400(and some change) The orginal debt has been deleted of my equifax Credit report. But, the other big 2 have it on there. The debt's last activify was 7/99 and this new company aquired the debt as of 03/02. They are saying they are going to sue me for the amount and garnish my wages. Anything kind of shady about this? Seems odd tgat the orginal debt has been taken off, but they still seem to think that this debt is vaild. Thanks in advance.
