Steve,

Because what CC Collector does and what you believe he is doing may not even be in the same universe of reality. The worst conflicts develop when both parties are right, but aren't arguing about the same THING.

The Christians I know usually quote Jesus and leave the Old Testament pretty much alone.

"Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's" was not Christ's most popular admnition, but I imagine it's very popular with I.R.S. agents who read the Bible. And it's as applicable to debt as it is to taxes.

Neither was His caution about casting stones at sinners, especially the first stones, real popular when He intervened in an execution. And His last words on the subject were for the woman to go her way and sin no more.

The Bible is a long and very important Book.

Anyone can raid it for quotations that support an agenda -- personal, political, even violently anti-social.

It was not written for that purpose, though.

It's dicey enough, conversationally, that politics is part and parcel to the subjects on this board, because we have -- or have not -- this or that right without the enactment or amendment of laws by our legislators and/or enforcement of laws by appropriate agencies.

What would be most helpful would be to be able to understand the constraints that ethical collectors are bound by. Because if you know what the other guy CAN'T do for you OR for the creditor (for example, forgive the debt the way many parents do), you aren't blinded by unrealistic expectations and can concentrate on getting such help as can be obtained from things the collector CAN do.

Then and only then can we all suggest SOLUTIONS to problems deriving from the reality that this is a debt-driven economy -- better laws, better trade conventions, better financial management.
