Pat! They are hoping you won't show up. They are circumventing the validation requirement the only way they can - sue first and ask questions later. IMO, if you answer, or show up in court, they will not be prepared with proof the debt is yours. I have been wrong, so don't take this as a guarantee. But what better way for a CA to go about getting money when, at every turn, consumers are using the law to stall them. They can sue, still be within the law, and not give you the opportunity to dispute without dealing with the court system. This intimidates most people, they won't show up, and the CA will win by default. My guess - they would not be able to validate if challenged.

Bank on it. You have nothing to lose. If you show up, and they have proof, they get a judgment, you can negotiate and settle. If they validated, same result. If they win, and you have no assets they get nothing anyway. If you have assets, you can always see a lawyer and see if you qualify for bk. if you choose.

My guess, again, you have a good job or some assets, and they think they can get something if they get a judgment.
