I'd suggest your husband file a police report concerning ID fraud. I'd also pull credit reports from all 3 CRA's and see if any other unknown accounts are visible.

Next, send Midland a very sternly worded letter demanding validation. Deny the account is your husbands and do claim ID fraud. Give them 30 days to respond. If they don't, I'd go see a lawyer. Don't send anything with his SS# and, have him print his name on the letter. No signature. Send the letter CRRR.
