Judgement filed by now defunct Montgomery Wards

Can anyone please give me advise as to what I can do about a judgment filed (by default), against me, on 5/00 by now defunct Montgomery Wards. Montgomery Wards charged off the account in 9/96. Apparently the attorneys that represented Montgomery Wards now own this debt and I'm supposed to pay them. Is this true?
