I faxed a letter to a collection agency requesting the name of the original creditor, proof of assignment from the original creditor and copies of documents they intend to prove their case (I think they might have purchased some old credit card debt of mine)on August 6. To date I have not heard anything from them although we have a court date in October. I have a confirmation sheet from the fax machine that displays the original message I sent and confirms that the fax was received by this "law firm's" fax number which I got from their letterhead. I was going to followup with a letter via regular mail today requesting it once again, but I don't know if this is a good idea. If they don't respond to my fax within 30 days, will this help my case? It's very close to 30 days now, so if I remind them I may be doing a disservice to myself. Does a fax carry the same weight as a piece of mail? Just for the record this "law firm" never mentions the original creditor in any of their correspondence. Just says that are authorized to collect this debt.
