This invites someone else to take a hit for you if you can't pay. Personally I would not want to do that to anyone especially my parents. You don't have to buy a used car if you don't need one...it was just a suggestion if you do. You can always start an account with a credit union and make a good name for yourself. Anyway..like I said...at 18 you have plenty of time. Also realize that every time you apply for credit you get an inquiry on your credit report. Inquiries can have a negative effect on a credit score. Stupid but true.
