Regarding your BK option, do yourself a favor and call a few law firms in your area who specialize. Most folks go bonkers when they hear what the charges are, and in your situation with dependency on government income, you will need to plan ahead for the worst, depending on what happens with the judgment thing.

Also look into legal aid organizations in your area. Even if legal advice is free, there are still filing fees. And in your situation, you don't want a paralegal handling the matter. Once you file you can't file again for a loooong time and you have property to defend.

When I filed bankruptcy in the early 1970s, the cost was $1500 for filing and legal representation. I was employed and so it was easy to work out a payment agreement with my lawyer because I had no bills to pay except for the legal expense and was already used to living on next to nothing trying to pay bills after 3/4 of our net income was wiped out when my husband lost his job.

BK laws are changing, I don't know what commonly charged fees are these days, you may NEED to file sooner rather than later to protect your home.
