Anything you decide to do as a settlement should be put in WRITING with any specifications such as the account can't be sold and don't talk to them on the phone. Don't tell them why you want to settle, for example, I'm trying to get a new home type of thing. They'll know you're eager to clear your CR and will take nothing less than $2500. Make copies of the letter and even the check (front and back) for proof so they don't renig on the agreement and you're still stuck basically in the same situation. Sorry that's all the advise I have for now, but those are the basics I've been taught by some of the best on the board. But observer is right, you've got to be prepared if they don't accept it.
