I do alot of forums and it seems when you settle they do try and screw you. You have to make sure you get it in writing and you have to make sure it states that it will settle the entire amount in full and that it will not be sold or placed with another collection agency and that you are not liable for anything above and beyond the settlement. Also, keep in mind that a settled cc is probably worse on your report than a bankruptcy or unpaid chargeoff. It puts a profit/loss flag there and it is devastating.
