Makes sense. Although I seem to recall that NFS was explicit in that it would clear my account with Citibank.... I'll spend the week going through my archives for the documentation, including the signed fax from NFS stating the above. If I can find it, I should be in good shape to dispute the current collection attempt, I think. If not, I guess I now know exactly how to get the dang thing finalized.

I also checked my credit report and the way you describe the situation matches what I see on the report.

I'm going to go back and try to determine is NFS was acting as an assignee of Citibank, or if they actually bought the debt from Citibank. I was never told that they were an assignee, but I could be misremembering. Anyway, not much more to do tonight, I'll probably look into it more tommorrow.
