An open--ended contract is still a contract. The SOL for a regular cc account in Missouri is 5 years.

Missouri is a "cause of action " State which means the date of your first delinquency, proven by your copy of the letter as being prior to Jan. 1997. You can try fighting this yourself, but, many States have judges in their lower courts who do not have any regard for unrepresented defendants. If you are being sued by a local CA/lawyer, there are some of them from your State who bought up bundles of old accounts and have been trying to collect on stale debts using very sneaky tactics.
If you are comfortable with standing up for your rights, and understand that you may lose because of a faulty court system, and have to appeal, go ahead.

I recomend however, that you go to my "find a lawyer" site, and get a consumer lawyer to defend you and counterfile against the CA lawyer for violation of the FDCPA, and State laws against extortion and frivolous lawsuits.
