Thanks :)

Actually, I agree with you in the abstract.

In reality, I never know why the stuff got on the report, so I take it at face value. If that's what they're up to, what goes around comes around anyway, they'll only get so far, IMO, then they'll get caught in their own tangled web.

Once the debt has been written off, it is a moot point, anyway, except with certain companies. Customers are so used to being treated badly that they don't recognize what those companies are doing when they agree to deal with them. Look at the posts about AmEx. I know AmEx rehabs people's accounts when they pay. Citi give CCCS graduates a starter account, and a chance to prove themselves. But bad faith has become the norm, so consumers are afraid to take the chance. Have I gotten off the subject?

I think the card companies are wising up and doing the smart thing, personally - if someone's fallen on tough times, they need a reasonable hardship program, not penalties and usury interest rates.

If someone just decides they would rather default, dispute everything, sue, get deletions, and start in again, they're most likely gonna get sued, now, and that is a little different to deal with than a collection agency.

Time are tough all over.

Linda
