Everybody her has good advice to give, but you must learn what advice applies to which situation.

CCCS is for people who have recently defaulted on their debts, are still well within the SOL, and face the real possibility of being sued because they have good jobs, assets of some sort, and something to lose. These days, OC's are not playing around, changes in the economy and corp accounting procedures have made me change MY tune from "lay low" to sign up with CCCS. BUT only in these specific situations.

Validation/dispute is for older debts, some still within the SOL, depending on what state, how old, the creditor, the CA, and how many times it has been sold.

In this case, this debt is so old it is not worth worrying about. Chase these slugs off. Don't hesitate, and don't even think about paying them anything. Sears won't take your money and they will try to keep messing with your credit, but you can make them stop!!!!

Abandon your fantasy, get real, these collection agencies buy these old debts for less than pennies on the dollar, then try to collect for a profit. They ding your credit even after the law sasy you can't, they lie and make people's lives miserable YEARS after the law says it is all over, put it to rest.

People have to have a chance to start over, that is what the law says.

DARTH VADOR< change your name to something that isn't evil - we are not going to beat you up here. Sears is entitle to report this on your credit report for 7 years from the date you first went continuously delinquent. You are close to the date that you will be home free.

1. tell us what state you are in.

2. start reading the "credit laws" and "credit problems" sections of this site so you can handle these guys the right way.

3. get over it, this is going away soon. you do not have to go around feeling guilty for what you "did" to Sears. They are big boys, they could have sued you then and didn't.

4. pick out your charity, and use this debt as motivation to help someone else who is worse off than you are. Your consciece will live happily ever after, and your self-esteem will shoot up a mile or so.
