Dispute it with all three credit reporting agencies. Tell them it is erroneous and not yours, include your social security number as reference. If the company is no longer in business, they will not be able to validate it. If it is still in business, they will still not be able to get validation if it isn't really yours. They are obligated by law to remove it from your credit files within 30 days if it cannot be validated. If they don't, they are in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

: OK I bought a house in 1997 and haven't checked my credit since then. I get a copy of my credit report yesterday and see this Gulfstate credit and that I owe 49.00 since 1996?
: OK should I just pay this? Where did it come from and what is it for I tried calling the 888 428 3891 number that is on the credit report and it seems that this number is disconnected.
