I am a New Jersey resident being sued by a collection agency for old debt. I am hoping they are not successful - however, if they are what exactly can they do? I do own a home that I have a signinficant amount of equity in (mostly because real estate has skyrocketed in the past few years in this area - it is a very basic home - not at all elaborate). Would the courts force me to sell the home to satisfy the judgement? I have four children, my husband has been unemployed for three years (after several earlier periods of unemployment). I have lived in the home for close to eighteen years. Any info would be appreciated.
