Hi there. A cease and desist is basically a STOP COMMUNICATION letter.

Often used by people who have debt that is past the SOL (uncollectible by law) and they want attempts to collect to end.

People who are being called at work and harrassed and they want to limit communication between themselves and the collector to just MAIL.

People who have been mistaken as someone else and are being contacted for a debt not their own.

If you are within SOL, no harrassement has taken place or violations of the FDCPA and the debt CAN be collected, then sending a cease and desist is NOT a good idea and may get you sued. A collector may see a suit as the only legal way of communicating if a C&D is sent in too early.

Hope this helped.
