Beware of DISCOVER PLATINUM Scam!

I want you all to avoid what I am now going through!

I rented a car and waived the rental company's insurance, thinking my personal car insurance and Discover Platinum Card's "Rental Car Insurance" covered any losses (I used the card to rent the car). Discover Platinum is supposed to cover the items your insurance will not, such as the deductable, towing and "loss of use" the rental company will charge you for.

I had an accident and found out I was wrong. At least about Discover.

You see, even though I have a Discover Platinum Card (says so right on the card) and all my statements say Platinum, I have what they call an "Surname Affinity" card, a "special issue" Platinum card - same features such as a $5000 credit line, no annual fee, etc, but because me last name is written in bold letters under the word "Platinum", it is not really a Platinum card. I never asked for this "special issue" card, they just gave it to me.

If you have this type of card, check the small print in the agreement they sent you and make sure you have a "real" Platinum card!

Also, check woth your personal insurance before you decide to waive the rental company's offer for their insurance! Even though it is priced high, it is better than paying your insurance company's deductable (and getting charged by your insurance company for the next 3 years) and the other charges the rental company can't collect from them!
