RMA Validation

Hi. Recently RMA validated my Sears account. Last activity date was 8/99 in TX. Back then the balance was about $2100. This is less than 1/10th of my total debt. I had surgery on my back two months ago, and live on Workers' Comp. It's just enough to squeak by on, and my income will only go down when I go back to work.

Basically, I'd like to avoid bk if at all possible. My wife knows about my bad credit, but none of my family members do. I'd like to keep it that way. I own next to nothing. I share no accounts or debt with my wife. My income for last year was $35.7k, this year it's $700, without W/C. W/C benefits are around $13K and stopping soon.

Does RMA own my debt or just act to collect from me? Is it possible to turn over items charged to deduct from the debt? I might be able to get $500 or so to offer as a settlement, but that I'd have to sell/hock what little stuff I have to do that. If any of you have other ideas I'm all ears.

Thanks!
Jeff
