Your problem is, Ca. is a community property state. I would suggest you see a lawyer about the "what if" questions on asset ownership. Hardship programs vary. Genmerally, they will lower your minimum payment and/or interest rate temporarily. One huge drawback is, they will want detailed financial information from you. Also, you generally need to be 60 days late so, your credit report will already be tarnished.
