Letter from Lawyer

My father recieved a letter from a law firm regarding an account that I have. I am not able to pay it because i am a stay at home mom and my husband and I dont have the income to pay the bill. What are my options?
I also have other debt that isnt able to be paid off. (I accrued this before he and I were married.) Is bankruptcy an option, or should I just let these people go away?
