If you are absolutely sure that this debt is beyond the 5 year SOL, then I wouldn't bother with validation, just send the C&D letter.
If you've got records that you could produce in court (if necessary) as proof, then it shouldn't be a problem, I'd make sure I have them close at hand in case CAMCO tries to pull a lawsuit on you.
